Description - The Ministry of Sports Affairs yesterday reiterated the govern-ment support to Oman football. Reacting to the criticism over lack of financial support to the Oman national team ahead of their crucial Asian Cup qualifier against Kuwait, the ministry yesterday said the government has been supporting the game and will continue to do so in the future as well.
In a must-win match, Oman only managed to draw against Kuwait last Wednesday and failed to qualify for the 2011 Asian Cup. In a statement issued yesterday, Saif bin Matter Auladthani, head of financial affairs at the Ministry of Sports Affairs, reaffirmed the support to the game. In his statement he said, the government had spent RO 14 million on football between 2005 and 2010. The national team alone was given RO 4 million between 2007 and 2009, the statement said.
